I think I'm ok, thanks for asking.

  • Vettel had a perfect qualy.
  • Webber had a shocker and was lucky to get 6th.
  • Vettel had a perfect start and had a 5 second lead after a few laps
  • Webber lost 2 positions at the start and got stuck behind a 7x world champion.
  • Vettel had a 4 second pitstop, faster than anyone else.
  • Webber had a sticky front wheel and then had to yeild to the 55m rule and got stuck behind the reigning world champ for the rest of the race.
  • Vettel had Webber-like luck and lost the win, but Mark couldn't even take advantage of this because he was so far back.

It was a BAD race for mark, there's no point hiding that fact! Let us mourn :P

Anyway I'm not saying the season is over - yes, Vettel has fired a significant warning shot across Webber's bow - but Webber still has the pace if he can sort his qualy problems out.

55 Metre Rule

Haven't been able to find anything written on it however they were discussing it last night whilst Mark was heading out of the pits. From what I understand it basically means when a car wants to exit the pits any other cars must be at least 55 metres away before the car can be released...

Basically there to stop what happened to Mark at Spa happening again...

That said cannot find anything about it in the regulates so it could be the BBC just making stuff up as they go along :)

Yeah the 55 metre rule is a tough one if you get caught out by it, as Mark did.

Well everyone is right, they really need to do something to change the racing, yes I want to see Mark winning but man, as an F1 fan as we all are the racing is as important if not more so. It says a lot that the lotus virgin battle was the most exciting thing out there.

As other's have said and I mentioned last night, why not make it mandatory to pit twice or even 3 times? Also more volitility in the tyre compounds should be the go. If you have more drop off in performance they would have to stop again. As it was the tyres are just to good!

But yeah I don't think anyone can take to many snooze fests.

Or maybe just ban the diffusers now...

yeah I think get rid of DDD, mandatory 2 pit stops, mandatory use of softs and hards at least once each during a race and choice of which tyre you can start on. That should hopefully provide more variables in performance between cars during the race and make for more passing.

I reckon this 55 metre rule is ridiculous. Okay, I know it's designed to prevent collisions and crap, but 55 METRES!?!?! that's an eternity in F1!!!! And as we saw with Mark last night, it's essentially forcing a driver to give up positions.

One positive I did note ( when I was awake ) is that the new teams and slower cars did a good job of getting out of the way when being over taken, not just in the race but in quali as well. Lets hope that stays but I do fear that the new pit lane rule is going to ruin a lot of peoples races throughout the year like it did Marks.

I must have fallen asleep and missed last nights race.
I remember seeing the 49 formation laps but I didn't see any racing going on.
If this refuelling ban is going to mean all races become a follow-the-leader type procession, I may take up watching Nascar.

Ironically enough, my Dad gave up and went to bed two laps before Vettel's engine went kaput. He said that if it was NASCAR he might have stayed up (because if it was Mark could have totally done a Harvick) but there was just no chance of anything happening.

Well... what can you say?

Webbers Sunday ended on Saturday and there's no one to blame but himself. The short of it is if he can no longer put in a hot lap under the pressure of doing one lap then he should do two.

His race was over before it started. That and the new pit lane distance rule which effectively gives precedence to the guys you beat in last years championship.... ???

Was great to see the Ferrari 1-2. VERY happy about that.... as for Red Bull and Webber. Well, Vettel deserved the win (and it's great to see the car has the pace) but Webber needs to lift his game. That weekend was all Vettel. I know it's only early and people make mistakes but he can not afford to do anything like that again for a while if he wants to be WDC.

"Unfortunately I can't get too drunk now because we're at the track again on Wednesday in Monaco," said Webber.

re- 55m rule, i thought that the higher number teams can choose their pit boxes first. usually teams take the last pitboxes for this very reason. did redbull not get an early pick of pitbox?

I already watch the V8's, and love the Clipsal.
The Adelaide circuit along with Bathurst and possibly Phillip Island are the best tracks on the V8 calendar.
The fast turn 8 (which has a habit of biting cars) and the late braking moves into Turn 9 are always good viewing.

Granted, his qualifying wasn't the best and he has already admitted as much, but in years past you could adjust a strategy mid-race in the hope of jumping somebody in the pits.

Look at Barcelona last year. Webber's long middle stint helped him jump Seb and take 3rd.
With everybody driving the same loaded up tankers, there is no great disparity in car weights or speeds, and coupled with following in another cars dirty air, overtaking looks like being a rarity.

Sunday's should not be ruined by qualifying 6th in the quickest car on the grid. Sunday's should be made difficult, but not impossible, by qualifying 16th in the quickest car on the grid. Why does the DDD make all the difference to overtaking? I'm confused about this one. In the past ten years they've made heaps of changes to the upper-car bodywork (removing the flip ups, barge boards, making wings smaller) and now this has failed it's all to do with the under-car?

I don't think they actually know why they can't run close together if you want my opinion.

This season looks set to be all about looking after the tyres. It won't be a dissimilar year to 2005 when they banned tyre changes - this type of driving Mark found difficult, hence why Nicky Hieldfield had more points than Mark before he fell off his bike (litterally).

I fell asleep last night and missed Vettels problem - only waking up just to see Alonso take the chequre... that bout sums it up for me.

The FIA have to continually flock with the formula - why I can't understand. We had a brilliant season last year. Just make the cars so they can pass and F1 rules the world again... but no....

Give me big sticky slicks that can handle a dirty track (therefore can pull off the clean line to overtake), single element front and rear wings (so they're not so sensitive to aero), wide track cars (to punch a big fat hole in the air on the straights for slipstreaming) and make F1 go to decent racetracks....

that's it for me..

Now give me my $100000000.00 FIA and go do it!!!!

He does have a point though, Vettel did drive a faultless race, made easier by dropping it on pole and driving away........Grrrrrrrr
